2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program

Program Overview
The 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside leading researchers at TTI. Each intern will be paired with a TTI research mentor and will contribute to an active research project within one of TTI’s University Transportation Centers (UTCs).
This immersive 10-week experience provides students with valuable insight into real-world transportation research, professional development opportunities, and a chance to explore innovative solutions to today’s mobility challenges.

- NCIT Internship: Be on the Frontier of Technology and Infrastructure Innovation
- Dive into projects involving infrastructure durability and innovation, innovative technologies and transportation policy.
- SPTC Internship: Accelerate in Multi-Modal Transportation Systems
- Work at the intersection of engineering, meteorology and data science to assess vulnerabilities in transportation networks and support safer, more efficient travel.

Funding and Relocation
Interns will receive up to $6,000 in wages for the 10-week period. Those residing in Bryan/College Station will also receive a $2,000 housing allowance and a $1,700 food allowance.
Interns are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation for the summer. Please note: Wages and allowances are considered taxable income.
Applicant Eligibility
Students from any academic major are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to:
- Civil or other Engineering disciplines
- Urban Planning
- Public or Community Health
- Social Sciences
- Statistics or Data Analytics
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for research and interest in transportation-related topics.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Have completed at least 90 credit hours by the end of Spring 2026.
- Be be on track to graduate no sooner than December 2026.
Participant Requirements and Expectations
Selected interns must:
- Refrain from enrolling in university courses during the 10-week internship.
- Attend all internship-related events, including the final poster or presentation session.
- Students are expected to commit at least 40 hours/week, which includes:
- Research hours determined by student’s mentor.
- Mandatory internship activities and meetings.
Program Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the program, interns must submit and present:
- A research plan
- A final paper
- A final presentation to researchers and fellow interns
- A research presentation
